BORROWING
■ Sir,—Mr. Herdinan struck interesting ground last night when, as reported in your to-day's issue of The Dominion, he pointed out that the imposts per head are steadily ; increasing, and was right when he said, -'this is a very serious position ... that is slowly sapping tho industrial life of'tho Colony, and there, must bo some influence to . account, for it.". That influence undoubtedly is the persistent and reckless borrowing policy of the Government, and until this' is stopped we can never hope to place tho Dominion's finances or industries on a solid basis.■ 'Mr. Hogg, therefore, hit the nail on tho head when ho said: "Thero is only ono way to pay off a national or individual debt, and that is in the first place to stop borrowing," and, therefore, this country cannot consider itself well governed until we have a Government who can finance the country and keep it prosperous without further borrowing. —I am, etc., C. P. W. LONGDILL. July 30.
