TOYS FOR SICK CHILDREN.
MR. HUGH WARD'S VISIT TO THE HOSPITAL. ■ - Each little bed bad an occupant, and some even had two, when Mr. Hugh Ward visited the children's warf- at the Wellington "Hospital yesterday 'to .satisfy himself personally* of the' n<xxl for a Children's Hospital. Without going into details, suffice it to say that his 'visit has given him fresh 'energy for the_ work he has set his hand to. Being in the habit of looking on the bright -side of things, he looked round carefully for the toys that in his opinion should be provided to cheer up those little ones in a fit oondition to be so chesrcd. All he could discover was a cricket ball, which had seen its best days, during which, to judge from its appearance, it must have teen hit for "sixers" as a regular thing. Without further ado Mr. Ward hied him to the D.1.C., and ordered £2 worth of toys to be dispatched 1 instantor to . the hospital. Mr. A. A. Corrigaa supplemented .the contribution sub-' stantially. There is little doubt that such a kindly action will be repaid trebly in the happy faces and renewed interest in life of the children who will fondle the toys'in the; ward to-day. To them it will mean a Christmas in mid-winter, and - Mr. Ward should ' really be made to enter down/ ', the chimney in the. white beard and befurred coat of Santa Claus to oomplete the illusion. .
