Williams was' installed in charge of the Wanganui'parochial district, in- succession to the Rev. H. J. Deaiie.The playing fields of tho, new Boys' College- arc now sufficiently "set" to admit of being used, and a couple of (lays ago were used for the first titno for football. The chairman of the Gonville Town Board stated at last meeting that, as soon as the drainage and water schemes had been finished, which will bo during the first half of next year, it was m- ' lorded to take a poll of ratepayers on the question of amalgamation with the borough of Wanganui. In view of this intimation the board negatived a proposal to change the name Goimlle to Wanganui West. The New Zealand Sheep Breeders' Association has presented the Wanganui Agricultural Association with a championship shield for the best Southdown ram. The Wanganui association has promised the Tarnnaki A. and P. Association to make inquiry into the possibility of importing a blight to cope with 1 ' the blackberry pest, and, if found advisable, to co-operate in tho matter..
