MASTERTON'S NEW MAGISTRATE.

■ _j _ WELCOMED BY THE BAR. (Prom Our Special Correspondent.) " Masterton, August 4, There was a largo' gathering of representatives of the bar and justices of the pcaco in the Magistrate's Court this morning, when Mr. 1. S. Reid, S.M., took his seat for the first time. Mr. A. R. Bunny, the senior member of the bar present, welcomed Mr. Reid to the district, and congratulated him iipoh. his appointment to the magisterial bench.. He stated that Mr. Raid had held an important appointment in. the Department of Justice, and the position which he now held was on-3 in which he should. give entire satisfaction. Mr. Bunny assured the magistrate that lie would have the support of every member of the. bar in the earryvi£ .out of his important duties. He hoped that he would never ro- ' gret the step lie had taken in accepting the position of stipendiary magistrate., In acknowledging the kindly reception accorded him, Mr. Reid said he had been told, when accepting the .position of magistrate, 1 that the bar of Masterton • would give him' every assistance. He would do his best- to deserve the copfidence of members of the bar, and of the . general community, and would dispense justice to the best of his ability.
