It is stated here that Mr. E. Bnckeridgo, of Wellington, has purchased an interest in the Telegraph Hotel, and will take possession almost immediately. A somewhat unusual visitor, an organgrinder, wafted sweet music to the townsfolk here on Wednesday, and managed to collect a modest sum for his old-time selections. , The Mastorton paper informs its readers that Chinamen aro plentiful here, there .being 200 now at Otaki, with the number still increasing. As a matter of fact, high rents and bad seasons have almost cleared the district uf Chinese. The, rainfall for tho month just ended totalled 1.75 inches. Ruin fell on 18 days, the maximum fall being on the 12th, viz., .'lliin. Them were frosts on six occasions. The barometer did not-reach normal for the first 23 days. Mr. A. Thome has resigned the position of secretary of the Horowhenua Rugby Union. ■ .
