She was rescued, and revived.' She hadnot been in the water long. It is not known how she got,,there.- She suffers from insomnia. .•'■'■•■■ It has since transpired that Mrs. Rooney, who" "is' eighty, years -of age, stripped off her upper garments and jumped into the creek. IMPOSED ON A SOLICITOR. Dargaville, August 2.' At the Magistrate's Court, AV. Gordeon was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment on a charge of obtaining money by falso pretences from Charles Darling, solicitor, by representing himself as a purchaser of land. The same man was recently sentenced at Whangarei for a similar offence.. PENDING CONFERENCE. , Feilding, August 1. At a meeting of the Wanganui Education Board, Sir. Swanger was granted leave of absence from secretarial duties to tho board to enable him to act as secretary to the Education Conference in Wellington.. Mr. Pirani was. authorised to prepare the order paper for, the Education Conference. Ho explained that his idea was to group tho subjects and ask tho conference to appoint four committees to report on the different groups. Then the whole conference could deal with tho recommendations. '. PALMERSTON INNOVATIONS. Palmerston North, August 2. Tho Borough Council to-night endorsed tho decision and recommendation of the recent' public meeting for the formation of a river board, and decided to approach the Kairnnga County Council to securo the joint action of the council. It also decided to introduce plant for tho electric lighting of the Opera House stage, and for moving picture shows, which it proposes running itself.
