The fusing of an electric light wire, in the window of a drapery shop caused a terrible disaster at Accrington, near Blackburn, in Lancashire. The goods in the window were fired, and the premises, which were orowded, wero soon ablaze, and there was a terrible rush for tho doors. Three women shop-assistants and two lady customers wero suffocated in an upper story. Their retreat was cut oil by' the main stairway breaking. The.damage .is estimated at .£20,000.
