BUILDING ACTIVITY..
A CONSIDERABLE' DECREASE. . ■ According to the statistics supplied in the report of the City Building Inspector (Air. W. D. Murdoch) for the period June.l, 1909-May 31, 1910, there has been experienced a considerable falling J off in building activity in Wellington, setting aside, of course, Government works, with which the City Council has no concern. This decrease is represented in figures by the sum of ,£73,385, the difference in the value of the buildings erected during the period referred to as compared with that of the previous year. The position may be set out thus:— • ■ . ■ 1909. 1910. : £ £ City 291,305 232,500 Mclrose 132,607 119,264 Northland- ■ 12,592 10,749 Wadcstown 4,330 4,990 Totals' ;.£440,894- .£307,509 Permits to tho number qf 200 were issued for new buildings, in tho city, a decrease of 59; in Jlelrose, 205 were issued, 9 fewer than those of the previous year; Northland permits totalled 21, a decline of 3. In 'Wadestown there' was an increase of C on the 15 permits issued last year.
