;' -''NOTES;';' '■ : ;', J --,' (BY-"Br/LUM>FF.") , • ..'.'.- The following information will inter-' est local players in view of next ijatur-; day's big shield match: — In the opinion of a Ghristchurch eh-' ; tlvusiast and reliable critic, Bellamy ia' a better man in goal than Luxton. 'fha latter has been chosen to' play' against';' : Wellington. In the opinion of pur cor- •' respondent, Bellamy's equal lias not yet been found in Canterbury. Luxton is ■ certainly a good man, and. at times'. '■ gives brilliant exhibitions of : 'goal- ' saving, but is inclined to'bo patchy.-. Bowden and Chambers are very good •■ full-baeks, so also is' P. Campbell, but' \ the latter cannot got away; The.so ara the best backs obtainable this season,■ ' but neither are as strong as last sea- s son's hacks. This is the weak spot in tho team. Of tho halves, Throp, Snoll,. aud Goldsbury are very strong both in -. defence and attack. Hero lies Canterbury's superiority over toe Wellington '■ team. Canterbury have plenty of good halves available, and could select at • ' least two more lines as strong as thoso Campbell, Duffield, Oram, An- . dersbn; Mahar, and Ridley beiug sound halves.. The forward rank is the: finosli» : that was ever picked to represent Can-'' tcrbury. Almost every, forward'chosen- ' is on top of form, and givon a fair; amount of luck and a dry day will tax' tho Wellington defence to its utmost.. Rankin, right.wing, is.playing splendidly, and is the oldest player so far as' , tho game is concerned, playing in-New Zealand. Ho is very fast and'clever with his stick, Harruigtoii is the best inside : •' right. Canterbury have. He is a fearr' less player, and almost unerring shot' at goal. He has tho wind of a Mara-' ' thon runner, and can "go from start to' finish,!' ;, Hulbert,! centre,; is fast and very clever with his stick. He is probably the most finished player Canterbury has. Featherston is a fast man. Ho is about the safest goal-getter of tho team. E. Green, outside left, : .is not as good as Hale, but is nevertheless a good man. He is vory fast, and plays a hard game. • He : lms been included in thorepresentative, cloven chielly owiiig.'to his goal-scoring. abilties. • ■
