Redmond, Nationalist member for Clare, quoted a special detailed statement wherein Sir (jeorgc Reid, High Commissioner for Australia, showed tho proportion of Australia's debt invested in reproductive works. He added, in reply to a question whether Australia took the lead in this respect, that it was difficult, and possibly invidious,, to compare the debts of the different parts of the Empire from the standpoint of reproductivencss, but that tried by this test, Australia would in any case stand •cry high.

In reply to Sir Kinloch Cooke, Colonel Seely said that the bulk of the three and a quarter millions which Australia expended on immigration was spent in securing immigrants from tho Motherland.
