PROPOSED LEGISLATION: A ! PROTEST. (By Telesraph.-Press Association.) Dunedin, July 29. The Otago and Southland Gold Mining Industrial Union of Employers .passed the following resolution to-day in connection with the Half-holiday for Miners' Bill:—"That this meeting protests most strongly against the Hon. A._ R. Guinness's amendment to the Alining Act, making the Saturday halfholiday compulsory. This amendment has not been asked for by either employers or employees in so far as mining in Otago, particularly 'dredging, is concerned, and is both a direct overriding of the Arbitration Court awards and an unwarranted restriction of output.- We desire to record our disapproval of this improper method of interference with the Arbitration Court awards, and the meeting is further of opinion that the award should be adhered to or that the Arbitration Act should bo removed from the statutebooks of the Dominion." A resolution was also passed by tno meeting in connection with tho Weekly Day ot Rrst Bill in the following terms:—"That this meeting protests against Mr. - Fisher's Weekly Day of Kest Bill as a direct and unnecessary interference with Arbitration Court awards, which, after exhaustive inquiries, provide for suitable workin" conditions and safeguards, and that therefore introduction of the Bill is not warranted.'.' "
