The Porirua team for Eiccarton will leave on .Monday night and will consist of sis horses, viz.: Waione, Tauira, Lovell, Pakau, St. Felix, and Bourbon. Waitoke, the winner of the Trial Hack at thu Hawke's Bay Hunt Club meeting, is stated to be a promising filly. Being by Waiuku, from Ferret, no fault can' 'bo foand with her breeding. She is trained by the ■ ex-cross-country rider. D. Watt.

Great interest is being taken in the election of president of the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club. The candidates ure Messrs T. H. Lowry and G. P. Donnelly. Each side is working hard to secure the return of its representative.

The Hastings jockey, J. O'Connell, who was hurt at tho last Hastings meeting, i« now quite well again, and loft for Eiccarton by tho Mararoa last night.

I'rom England comes word of the death of the thoroughbred stallion Oryioto. He was twenty-two years old, having b«m foaled in 188S, and was by Bend Or out of Nappli, by Macaroni out of Sunshine, by Thormanby. Ho was thus nnexceptionably bred, and did some good service for his'breeder and owner, Mr. J. H. Houidsworth,. for whom ho won several good races without being equal to ■ achieving classic honours. His successes as a two-year-old included the New Stake* at Ascot, the Portland Stakes at Leicester, and the Chesterfield Stakes at Newmarket, lint he failed to run into a place- for the Middle Park .Plate won by M. E. Blanc's Gouvorueur. - His following season was marked by many victories, and among them may he mentioned the Midsummer Plate at Newmarket, Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, Great Yorkshire Stakes at York, Doncaster Stakes, and tho Free Handicap Sweepstakes at Newmarket Houghto'n. Further honours awaited'him as a four-year-old, for the won the Rous Memorial Stakes at Ascot and a small race at the windiug-up meeting at the Turf headquarters, though severnl failures had to bo chronicled between the two achievements. He opened 1893 with, a capital performance by winning the Keinpton'Park Jubilee Stokts under flst. 51b., but he made a poor show for the Ascot Gold Cun, aud nftor being lrtaten by Cabin Boy tor the Dullingham Stakes at Newmarket in July was retired to the stud.
