FIGURES' FOR PAST QUARTER. NEARLY QUARTER MILLION EXCESS OF EXPENDITURE. The Gazette of last night contains the public accounts for .the qunrter ended June 30, the first quarter of the current financial year. The movement of the Consolidated Fund during tho quarter may be thus summarised:— Initial balance .£-132,310 Rovenuo ....... J:2,023,852 ■ '':.:• . ' ' X 2.456.198 Expenditure £2,214,449 ■Ending balance .£211,71!) Tho expenditure, it will be seen, exceeded the revenue; and nothing was transferred to the Public Works Fund. The revenue was made up of ,£1,939,73-1 ordinary revenue, and ,£84,148 territorial revenue- (the latter includes £55,602 of last year's revenue from "endowment" land). The expenditure consisted of: Permanent appropriations,. .£1,065,513s anaual appropriations, £1,148,936. The increase in tho permanent appropriations was £110,213, while the annual appropriations, as compared with Inst year, show an. increase of £141,663, the details for' the different Departments being: •.,■•'• . ■ 1909. Totals £1,007,274 1,148,936 The Public Works Fund opened with a balance in hand ,of £312,366. The receipts consisted of £271,000, unused remnants: of 1909 ; loans.- The expenditure amounted to £301,417, the chief items being! railways £177,869, roads £45,263, public 'buildings £12,129, and telegraph extension £21,057. The Treasury Bills outstanding have increased "to £400,000.- - . ■
