BIG FIGHT PICTURES.
EXHIBITION IN THE TOWN HALL. So far as the Town Hall is concerned it seems doubtful if the kinematograph exhibitions of the Jeffries-Johnson fight will bo permitted. The question was settled by tho Finance Committee of the City Council when considering a resolu-. tion of protest which had been forwarded to tho Mayor by. the Wellington Presbytery on the subject, and was referred to at the full meeting of the council last evening during consideration of inward correspondence. When the Town Clerk, rapidly calling over ,1-he correspondence list, arrived at the entry "Presbytery of Wellington: resolution regarding Jeffries-Johnson pictures," he was held up by Councillor Fletcher, who inquired of his Worship why it was that the Finance Committee was able to deal with the matter without reference to tho council.' v 'J'ho Mayor explained that the committee was responsible for the letting of tho hall, and went on to say that in this particular matter the committee was not unanimous, though a majority had ruled against the proposel. Councillor Devine pointed out that noapplication had been received for tho use of the hall for the pictures. At this stago the matter was deferred for consideration as an item in the supplementary order paper. Subsequently, Councillor Fletcher said that" the whole Question of the lotting of the Town Hall by the Finance Committee on its o-vro* responsibility was unsatisfactory. The Mayor said that it was quite oompetent for the council to review tho decisions of its committee. Councillor Fletcher pointed out that the committee had not renorted its decision in this matter.' Ultimately tho question wag referred back to the committee for a report.
