The death rates per 1000 of population in (he four chief cities of New Zealand during the month of June are returned as follow i—Auckland, . 0.0S); Wellington, -.91; Christchurch, 0.88; Dnnjdin, 1.21. The inclusion of the suburban boroughs tends to lower the rate at each of the four cities, the rates working'out. as follow:—Auckland, 0.56; Wellington, 0.S0; Christctutrch, 0.87; Bunedin, 1.01. It will thus be seen that, including the suburbs, the rate at Dunedin is tlio highest, and at Auckland the lowest. The results for June, 19i)0 (including subnrb*) were:— Auckland, 0.8G; Wellington. II.7B; Christ, church, O.SOj Dnnedin,' 0.53. The total births in the above boroughs amounted to Gl-t, against 553 in April—an increase of 31.' The deaths in June were 255—an increase of .51 on the number in May. Of the total deaths, males contributed M 7, females 10S. Forty-eight of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being IS.S2 per cent, of the whole nuni--jr; 37 of these were under one year of age. There were- ninety-five deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards.
