REFORM ON THE STAGE.
ACTION BY THE MINISTERS' • ' ASSOCIATION. It is understood that in the interview with the Attorney General (Hon. Dr. Findlay) on Wednesday, tbe . delegation from the Wellington Ministers' Association drew the Minister's attention to the coming production of the comedy, "The Girl from Rector's," to be produced by the- Hugh Ward Company here next week, contending that .the play in question'was not nf the class that should be encouraged nn the stage ol the Dominion. But it was not quite so much an objection to the one comedy Miat' influenced the Ministers' Association to take tbe matter up. They sought to know what statutory power existed to cheek the production of plays, which may be considered not in the best interests of public morals, and if such power clip exist, iu whom was it vested. The members of the association arpae that, being out for moral reform all round, they could not object to the, exhibition of the Johnson-Jeffries / .fight pictures and allow plays to be produced iriiich many consider to be improper. It is that class of play which is said to prevent the purt-mind'ed from the enjoyment of the drama. They suggest that there should be some sort of censorship over plays and other entertainments given in' Movv Zealand, iu order to prevent the production of the pernicious, and inculcate higher ideals in what should be an.honoured and respected profession, and one, withal, that is capable of creating an influence for good, when directed in the proper channels. It isunderstood Hint the Attorney-General is to look into tKe whole question.
