■ SUCCESSFUL CLEARING SALE. Messrs. Dalgety and Co. and the New Zealand Loan, and Mercantile Agency- Co., in conjunction, report a very satisfactory sale of' dairy stock, horses, and implements on account of Messrs. Lowe Bros., at Himatangi, on Monday. There was a .large attendance of local and outside buyers, and bidding throughout was particularly brisk. Quotations Cattle: Weaner Holstein bulls, 1 255. to £3, and £2 :15s. to £4 25.; heifers in-calf, £4 15s. to £7 155.; dairy cows, springing, £6 lCs. to £10-155.; late calvers 1 and unsound .cows, £.1 ss. to £6 55.; Holstein bull, "Homeo," 20, guineas. Messrs. Dalgety . and C 0.,. Ltd., Tcport:— At our Wanganui sale yesterday we had a fair yarding of sheep and cattle. The bulk of the sheep yarded consisted of lines of hoggets, for which the demand was quieter than it has been of late, the bulk of the yarding being passed at auction, though we effected a totals clearance afterwards. We quote:—Fat ewes, 15s. Id.; store wethers, 14s. 6d.; good wether hoggets, 13s. 6d.; others, lis. 3d.; small mixed hoggets, 10s. 3d.; small hoggets, ss. 9d. to Bs.; to £5 55.; forward cows, £3 17s. 6d., £3 18s., to £4 55.; two and a half-year steers, £4 12s. 6d.; store cows, £3 to £3 6s. 6d.; dairy cows, £4 10s. to £6 12s. 6d.; yearling heifers, £2 2s. 6d.r yearling steers, £2 ss. 6d.

Messrs. Abraham 1 and Williams, Ltd., report holding a very successful sale of dairy stock on account of Mr. W. Galloway at Pahautanui on Tuesday, at the following prices:—Young cows, well forward, £5 ss. to £9 10s.; lower conditioned cows, £7 to £7 155.; aged cows, £5 to £6 155.; springing heifers, £5 7s. 6d. to £6 ss.' The whoio herd of 60 cows averaged £7 ss.

The-New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report:—At Kaumai this week wo had a medium entry, consistin- wholly of dairy stock. We quote: Two-year steers, £3 155.; cows in calf, £3 lCs. to £4 155.; springing cows, £5 ss. to £7; springing heifers, £4 15s. to £6 2s. 6d.

Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. report as follows:—At our Wangantii sale on .July 20 • more stock than-advertised came forward, viz., 680 head mixed cattle, 2170 sheep, and 100 pigs. 'Although the weather was very bad we had a good attendance of buyers, and biddingovas spirited for both cattle and sheep, and practically the whole yarding was disposed'of at advanced rates. Pigs sold well. On duly 21 we had a clearing sale of dairy cows at Waverley on account of Mr. J. M'Carten. The attendance was good and bidding free. Early calving cows sold well, but backward ones were harder to quit. Sundries sold well. On July 22, at our Waverley stock sale, we had a good yarding, viz., 240 head of cattle and',33oo sheep. .Although .the weather continued wet and alormy the attendance of buyers was good. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows:—At our Taratahi sale on Monday we submitted a large yarding of ah classes of stock, our principal entry being some first-class dairy cows, which were offered on account of Mr. Oliver Bubb, of Longbush. These met with a very ready sale, prices being as follow:—Dairy cows, 27 in number, averaged £6 '165.; highest pricc paid £8 15s. On account of other vendors, we effected tho following sales: Swinging cows, from £7 12s. 6d. to £10 12s. 6d., rising three-year steers, £4 55.; springing, heifers, £5 10s., £6 7s. 6d„ £6 12s . 6d., £6 17s. 6d., to £7; empty heifers, £2 16s. to £3 25.; three-off steers, up to £5 12s. 6d. At our Masterton sale this week wo had a small yarding of sheep and a good yarding of cattle, which met with ready sale, prices being as follow;— Fat wethers, 17s. 6d.; lambs (poor), Bs.; springing heifers (backward), £4 6s. to £4 13s. cows in milk, up to £7 13s. 6d. At Addington live stock market there ■ were moderate entries of stock, and' a good attendance. There was an improved demand for store sheep, and fat • lambs sold well. Fat sheep opened a little easier, but firmed again. . Fat cattle were firm at late rat-os, and pigs were in good, demand. Store cattle met with a poor sale, and dairy cows were in keen demand. The yarding of, store sheep was considerably larger than of late, there being a good representation of all classeß, ewes being in larger numbers. The ewes were mostly aged and soand-moutli sorts. With them was one specially good line of twotooth ' three-quarter breds. Thero was a fairly even lot of wethers, and the hoggets were of mixed quality. There was a good salo throughout, though the bidding was not so brisk towards the close, and several lines of hoggets were passed. Soundmouth. ewes sold well, but failing-mouth lots were not in equally good demand, wethers sold at late rates, and at the opening of the sale hoggets brought advanced rates, but receded afterwards to last week's prices. Two-tooth three-quarter-bred ewes made 19s. 2d. Good sound-mouth half breds,'to 16s. Id.; other lines, 12s. to 14s. 4d.; six and eight-tooth crossbreds, to 18s. There were 851 fat lambs penned, the better sorts sold well, prices ranging from lis. 6d. to 17s. 9d., and a few extra, to 19s. There were 490 taken for freezing, 290 v/ure passed, and the butclicrs bought 71: There was. a moderato yarding of fat sheep, mostly wethers, the average quality being better than the week before, which will account for the, higher range of prices. Though the • market opened a little easier it firmed up, and values wurc* fully up to last week's level. The yarding of cattle totalled 342 head, a large proportion, being of very prime quality. ' There was a keen demand, and nearly, all lots were sold at the previous rates, the market, if anything, being firmer. Steers made £7 15s. to £11, and to £16 55.; heifers, £6 10s. to £8 10s., extra to £12; cows. £6 to £8 7s. 6d., extra to £11 10s.; equal to 20s. to 28s. per ICOlb., according to quality. A line of 24 heifers from the North Island made £10 Bs. to £10 15s. ... ' A small yarding of store cattle met with ,a poor demand, 15 to 18-months 'malting !40s. to 58?.; two-year steers; £3 15s;; threeyear heifers, £4 55.; and dry cows, 30s. to £4 ss. • Dairy cows sold well at £3 10s. to £8, and extra' to'£ll. A moderate entry of piss came forward, and they met with a rather improved demand, though prices were unchanged. Choppers sold up to £3 12s; large baconers, 445. to 48s.;' lighter, 375. 6d. to , 425. fid. (equal to 4d. per lb.): large porkers, 345. to 365. 6d.; smaller, 28s. to 325. Dunedin, July 27. ; At Burnside stock market 132 fat cattle were yarded. l This number was insufficient for the requirements of the trade, and consequently prices reached the highest'point of the season. - All classes sold at'fully 15s. to 20s. per head above last week's rates. The Quality on the whole was not up. to the average. Best bullocks, £12 to £13 155.; medium, £10 10s. to £11 10s.; light, £8 to £9 10s.;" best cows and -heifers, £9 to £10 10s.: medium, £8 to £8 10s.; light, £6 10s. te £7 10s.
