; ' EMTJLSIFYEN'Or RED OIL. An exchange states that an orchard inspector, -under the Agricultural Department. has supplied the following 'particulars of the method of emulsifying red oil, recommended by tho Department Proportions.—One pint of hshoil, three iounces of caustic potash (Greenbank), six ' Ounces of resin, , and three-quarters pf a -pint' of crude carbolic acid. . Preparation—Heat to a temperature of •290deg. Fahr. in an iron pot that will hold two! gallons. Stir to allow the complete .solution of the resin and caustic potash. (Then take off the fire and add'five pints iof red oil. Slowly add cold water,, stirjTing to allow the water to thoroughly mix '-with the oil. Prom one 1 to three pints of water, the smaller amount being, genially sufficient, will make an oil that .'.will readily mix-with cold water. ' The mixture can then be diluted at any i'time to the required strength, this being fan the.proportion, of twenty-four .parts' of "water.for each part of red oil in the mixfture. Thus for the quantity of red oil jgiven (five pints) fifteen gallons of water bet added. , '
