HEAVY DAY IN COURT.
YESTERDAY'S. BUSINESS.
Yesterday was a busy day in the la* courts of Wellington. Mr. Justice Chapman was,the first judge to take his seat on the bench. He delivered his judgment in Banks v, Cheltenham Dairy Company at 9.45.a.m.. He had hardly finished reading it, when the Chief Justice (Sir 1 Robert- Stout),- sitting in the other court-, room, had a prisoner who had pleaded guilty to stealing mail matter brought before him for sentence. After a short interval of quiet, the Appeal Court resumed its hearing of the.patent skylight case,-, which ..las'ed until nearly lunch time.. In the afternoon the Appeal Court sat again'and disposed of two cases which judges in the Supreme Court had reserved for'its-decision.. In one of these the Court decided, an. interesting point re-* lating to the law on evidence, and in the other case it heard argument and gavo judgment upon a matter relatini to the book-keeping requirements under ' the Bankruptcy Act. The resultof this last decision is that the conviction of John Morris Schapiro, of 'Wellington, for not keeping .proper books of. account is up r jie'.d. All these.cases are reported elsewhere.-'. .Business in . the Magistrate's Court was also heavy.
