W.W.C.T.U. CONVENTION.
Delegates from all parts of tho work! attended, the World's Women's Christian Temperance Union Convention in Glasgow last month. Nearly three hundred of the four hundred and fifty delegates came from the United States. Tho convention opened in St. - John's United Free Church, when, in the absence of the Countess .'of Carlisle,- president, Mrs. Lillian M. N. Stevens, "vice-presi-dent at large'' (an American title which rather amused the Britishers present), occupied tho chair. Of. presidents and representatives of the union in countries federated to the W.W.C.T.U. there were present: Miss Forrster Paten, Scotland; Mrs., Hallowes, India; Mrs. Mackenzie, South Africa; Mrs. Nolan, Australia; Mrs. Fries,. Sweden; Miss Thompson, Egypt; Baroness Von Hansen, Germany ; Miss Broad, Korea ; Miss Roberts, Now Zealand (a well-known Christchurch speaker); Mrs. Gordon Wright, Canada; Mrs. Thaclcer, Mexico; Mrs. Stevenson, Burmah; Mine. Layyah Barakat, Syria; Mrs. Thome, Madagascar; Miss Warren, Palestine; Miss Slack. England; and Mrs. Hutchison, United States. An illuminated address of welcome to the union was presented by Mr. Cameron Corbett, M.P. On Tuesday evening, a public meeting was hold in St. Andrew's Hall. On Monday evening, June 5, . tho W.W.C.T.U. delegates were entertained at a conversazione in the Glasgow City Chambers. In'-the absence of the Lord Provost and Mrs. M'lnnoss Shaw, the numerous guests 'were received by Bailie niul Mrs. George Dunlop, and several of the magistrates.
