The following are extracts from letters from the mine manager of tha Ross Goldfields Co., Ltd., to the chairman of the company on the subject of development work:—"The uprise from the sixth level, in which there are three shifts of two men per shift, is progressing satisfactorily. Ton will note that this uprise wau put with a view to intersecting the Cassius : layer of wash if it exists overhead or above ' our present workings, and directly in line i with his (Cassius) layer. or run of wash, j So far the uprise is up 24 feet from the ] top of the sixth level, passing through j country of terrace bottom and i carrying fine colours,'indicating r.hat this | may form a bottom, and there is a proI bability of meeting a layer of wash on | the same, when it is extended another 16 ( feet, which would make the total distance ]40 feet above tho sixth level. Other de- ! veJopmeuts are proceeding satisfactorily." i The chairman of directors (Dr. Neeley) ] has received a telegram from the managing engineer to the effect that the lab-' our trouble at the mine, he thinks, may be amicably settled by a conference. Dr. Neeley shares- this view, and expects to meet the men in conference about the first of next month. GRAND JUNCTION. The following telegram been received from the Grand Junction min'e:—Royal Lode, No. 5 level, east crosscut, 690 feet. Reef is 646 inches wide, assaying £1 13s. 6d. per ton. DREDGING.
