(From Our Special Correspondent.) & The announcement of the death cf the late Mr. George Appel.garth was received in Petone with very general regret. Deceased has been c-onnected with the Bailway • Workshops in the capacity of workshops foreman for the past iive years. llv. Applegarth was in indifferent health for the past twelve months, but the final attack of illness only hasted three days. The interment will lake place at Duncdin, wliero deceased wan very well known. Ho leaves a widow and two daughters. At this evening's meeting of the Petono Borough Council Councillor Piper will ask the following questions:—(l) AVhy wits the letter from the loyal Orange Lodge asking permission for a band to play in Jackson Sheet last Sunday not brought boforo the council, as was a similar request from the Citizens' Band? (2) Have any steps been taken to procure a legal opinion as to rating of the Petono Brill Hall. As a result of their complaint regarding the alleged unfair competition by the municipality, the lecal plumbers will wait upon the Petono Borough Council to-night to discuss their grievances.
