DR. HENRY AT PETONE.

TEN DATS' MISSION. The "southerly" which prevailed on Saturday night in no way damped the enthusiasm of the large crowd which assembled in the Drill Hall to take part in the welcome tea, given in honour of the Henry-Potts Mission. The ltev. A. Thomson, who presided, expressed regret that, owing to ill-health, Mrs. and Miss Henry were unable to be present at the opening. Continuing, Mr. Thomson said that he. was echoing the sentiments of the whole of the Hutt Valley in extending ,1 hearty welcome to the mission party. Dr. Henry's name was known the wide world over, and he (the speaker) looked forward, before the mission ended, to a great ami abundant spiritual harvest.

The Rev. Mr. Williams, one of the joint secretaries of the mission, referred to the excellent work already done in the Dominion, and believed that a fitting climax, alter some months of arduous labour on the part of tho 'oxecutivo in the Hutt Valley would now be reached. Addresses were also given by' the Rev. Mr. Cotton, Rev. J. D. Russell,-.' Rev. Mr. Rothwell, Rev. Mr. Bowden-Harrls, Adjutant Greene, and Ilev. S. J, Garllck. An ; apology was . received from the Rev. J. M'Caw.

Dr. Henry, on rising to reply, was greeted with prolonged applause. He said that it was the object of his party to' assist. all the . churches in' the Hutt Vallej. The messuge to 'be spoken in the next ten days would bo very definite. He would urge the helpers to bring forward all their resources, and if this were dono he believed that all would have an opportunity of rejoicing together when the mission closed. Dr. Henry then out-linc-dtho plaii of campaign, and suggested a united open-air meeting for attracting largo crowds.

Mr. Charles Pdits also spoke. The mission proper opened on Sunday afternoon. There was a crowded attendance, tho Drill Hall's ' capacity being severely taxed. As the audience assembled tho mission chtir, led by Jlr. Potts, sang scveral of AlcxanrJo" s Hymns. After Mr. Poole, M.P., h;ul led in prayer, and tho Rev. T. A. Williams had read Psalm 85, Dr. Henry gave his address, which was followed with close 'attention. Ho addressed himself specially to Christians, and laid emphasis 011 the "luxury" of soul-winning work, and giving striking illustrations of what was possible to every Christian. .

Mr. Potts sang a solo with -much repression. It was noticed that his articulation and phrasing was perfect, every word and syllable being clearly followed. His quiet, but efJecbvn method was very pleasing. Subsequently a number ' of professed Christians stood as witness to a pledge to put away all known sin, and to givo themselves to soul-winning as opportunity afforded. Dr. Henry met the personal workers and stewards at the close of the meeting. On : Monday, Tuesday; and Wednesday lunch hour will be given to tlio local places of industry.

The evenihg attendance was even Greater thnn that of the afternoon.
