Abraham, president of the Manawatu Racing; Club:— . ■ ■ That this meeting considers that tho abolition of the totalisator would not bo .in the best interests.of the-'Domin-ion ;. ; that, this meeting is of opinion that ;a'reduction in the number of days for racing each year is' desiratilo, :mofo especially in : regard .'to unregistered meetings; which, should be absolutely barred (except in the case of purely eports meetings); that such .limitation as regards 'totalisator clubs should not be of. too drastic a nature; that at least three years' notice should be given tbclubs which havo to lose-their meetings altogether. ■, . ' ■ Mr. Abraham warmly defended tho racing clubs against the Hon. J. 'A. Millar's attack, and stated; that they had done all in their power to purify the bookmakers' business. The Manawatu Club had a list made, and submitted -it to the police, and tho only reply which they received' was that they were "all equally bad." The club had also been proceeded against for refusing to license a bookmaker, because he had not behaved himself on the Manawatu course. • • ' It was also resolved: "That the meeting heartily congratulates the Premier on. having passed the motion brought forward for the repeal of the clause in the Gaming ami Lotteries Act of 1900, giving bookmakers a legal status, and hopes that'legislation willbe passed.'to give, effect to the resolution without delay. . ■ ■
