His Excellency Lord Islington has taken a lease of Mr. Charles Pharassyn's residence, "Lougwoqd," at Feathcrstoii, which he will occupy as a week-end country house. His Excellency will be the guest of the Wellington Racing Club at a dinner to be 'held at the Wellington. Club this ..evening. On August 4 Lord Islington will open the Missions to. Seamen's bazaar, and the day following will leave for the south. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington,, has accepted the position of patron of the Philatelic Society of New Zealand. The members of Williamson's Grand Opera Company passed through Wellington en route to Sydney and Melbourne yesterday. Mr. Herbert Smith, manager of the Phoenix Fire Office, Wellington, left for Sydney on a month's holiday by the Moeraki yesterday. Mr. W. H. Wanklyn, secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference, 1 returned to Christchurch last night. Mr. T. W.' Stringer, K.C., of. Christchurch, left for the south last night. Certificates for the rank of major have been issued to Captain Arthur Marshall (Wellington Civil Service Rifles) and Captain H. S. G. Harper (Wanganui Guard Rifles). Dr. Cameron, of Dunedin, left for Sydney last night by the Moeraki. Mr. A. S. Petersen was a passenger for Sydney last night by the Moeraki. Mi. Rowland Ellin left by the Sydney boat yesterday, en route for Singapore. The Rev. H. A. Favell has resigned tho cure of Holy Trinity Church, btratlord, in order to remain at tfishopsuourt as domestic chaplain, in coitsequence of tlio continued ill-health of i)r. lSeligan (Bishop of Auckland). The resignation will take ettect on August 7. The Bishop has appointed the Kev. Wilfred Arthur Butler, M.A., Wadham College, Oxford, to the cure at Stratford. Since he came to the dioceso three years ago Mr. Butler has been on the staff of St. Mary's Church, New Plymouth, and has had charge of the Uniata district of that parish.
