CHARITABLE AID.
WORK OF THE PAST MONTH. ' The Charitable Aid Committee of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, reporting to the board at the monthly' meeting yesterday, stated that the total number of cases assisted during the month was 05, including ten new cases/ The total number of persons relieved was:—Adults, 89; children, 15G. The first total includes the cases of two deserted, wives. Tlio principal causes of destitution and the number destitute therefroi)i, were stated as follow:—No male support, 20; sickness, 19; old age, 9; lack of 'employment, 6'; physical defects, -1; and intemperance, 3. During the month total rations, had been granted to 1163 casuals, and cash grants ill aid of relit totalled J232 6s. lOd. From the Oliiro Home 10 inmates were discharged during the month, and 13 were admitted. The number in the home on June 28 was 121, the total number granted indoor relief, 134. The grand total of adults and children relieved was 381. The report was adopted. The committee also recommended:— 1. That arrangements being now completed for taking over the administration of charitable aid in the suburban and rural sub-districts, the eommitteo be now authorised to assume active control of all branches of this department, and for that purpose to deal direct: with the various local bodies who have in the meantime carried on the service; 2. That the outdoor relief ration now in use for the City of Wellington be adopted as the uniform ration throughout the board's district. These recommendations were adopted.
