MacManus, "to protest against the action of, Mr. Justice Sim in the shearers' cose, and also what appears to be evidence of a widespread conspiracy, involving members of Parliament and the Employers' Association, to defeat the passage and administration o£ laws in the workers' interest," was called for this evening, but, as only 18 people were in attendance, an adjournment till Saturday night was decided upon. EFFECT OF DRUGS. CULMINATES IN BUKGLARY. j Christchurch, July 21. William John Grosse, aged 19, a dentist's assistant, pleaded guilty at the Court to-day to. sixteen charges of breaking t entering, and theft, and was' committed to the Supremo Court for sentence. It was stated that Grosse is a victim to the drug habit, which he acquired when employed as a dentist. Ho was in the habit of injecting cocaine and morphiua, and when under the influence of the drug ho was in a state of abnormal excitement, leading him to undue physical activity, whilo his moral standards were destroyed. When -arrested Grosse. had' a loaded revolver in his pocket, and at his residenco the police found a "jemmy" and' aa electric borer,' adapted for opening safes. "SHADOWED" FROM ENGLAND. Herbert Walter Insull was arrested yesterday at Patoka (whero lie was engaged on a 'scrub-cutting contract) charged with embezzling A'soo from his former employers, Lloyd and Sons, auctioneers, Eilesmcre, Accused was before the Court to-day and remanded. DEBTOR'S CONTENTION UPHELD. Christchurch, July 21. In the' case in which the validity of a bankruptcy notice (mentioned yesterday) was involved, the Stipendiary Magistrate, in the course of his judgment, delivered to-day, held that the omission of certain words from the notice was material, and set aside the notice with costs to the debtor.
