A Bill, introduced by Mr.- l'ercy Alden, • Liberal member for 'lottenham, prohibiting tho sale oi the plumage and skins of certain wild birds, iias been read a first time in the House of Commons. Tho Bill aims at preventing the extinction of. rare birds. Mr.'Alden mentioned that a thousand emu skins, all of which had been smuggled out of Australia, were catalogued at last year's sals in London, as were likewise the skins of 25,000 humming birds., Colonel Carlile declared that the only remedy was an international agreement, otherwise tho prohibition would merely divert trade to the Continent.
