Tho Children's Pageant. The final rehearsal for the Children's Flower Pageant took place yesterday afternoon at the Town Hall, when, in addition to the dances, some elaborate am! eireclivo marches were successfully performed by the children, Tho Governor is to ho present this evening, but will not be able to reach the hall. till eight' o'clock, so the pageant, instead of. beginning at halt-past seven, as at lirst intended, will not now . begin till eight o'clock. After the children liavo leic tho hall a grown-up dance will bo held. It may interest our readers to know how the idea of- tho Children's Flower Pageant originated. The tea given by Mrs. Lan Duncan during Carnival Week is looked forward'to each year as oho of the pleasantest happenings of that season. Danes at the Hutt. Last night ove • a hundred guests went out from town by special train to the Hutt, where a delightful dance was given by Mrs. Vivian Riddiford at her home. The house was beautifully decorated with .flowers. In the, ballroom trails of lycopodium were interspersed with pink camelias, and all the sittingout rooms were decorated with pink camelias and foliage, while the supper room and tables w jre aglow with crimson camellias and anemones'. The music was supplied by King's Band. Mrs. Vivian ltiddiford wore a frock of white satin, with overdress of dewdrop net, and wreaths of pink.roses; Mrs. D. ltiddiford's frock was of- pale green chine silk, with tunic of pink Brussels net; Miss Clark wore .white satin, draped with pale pink ninon; and Miss Fitzherbert, who was also one of the house party,-wore green satin. The Newbury Hall was crowded on Monday night, when a "social" in aid of the funds of 'the District Nurse Society'was held. . The function was organised by the Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. Nash, assisted by a number of other ladies. The first part of the evening'was devoted to concert items, songs being contributed by Miss Cooper, and Messrs. Young, Sylvester, atnd Muiuly,. a recitation by Mr. H. Palmer, a flute solo by Mr. Woolliouse. and ventriloquism by Mr. Fellows, tho evening concluding with a dance. The Mayor, Mr. ,J.' A. Nash, thanked those who had assisted, and Archdeacon Harper outlined the work of the society, as conducted by Nurse Handera.

Mrs. Dalziell has issued invitations for a tea next Tuesday. Mrs. and Miss Seddon are visiting Auckland. , Mrs.. Elder, from Waikanae, is staying with Mrs. 0. B. Monson, and Miss Elder is the guest of the Misses Turner. ■■•■'■ • " ■ ■ The Victoria College Ladies' Hockey Club' gave their annual dance at the college gymnasium last night. The Governor's household staff, numbering eighteen, or more persons, will arrive by the Rimutaka some days before Lady Islington, who has passage by the Turakkia. By the Rimutaka is also coming a quantity of gold and silver plate, valued at £10,000, some of which belongs to the Georgian period. The staterooms on the Turakina occupied by Lady Islington and her daughter were specially decorated for her, the work being placed in the hands of a famous London firm. . Mr. and Mrs.' Haslett H. Haight and daughters, of California, U.S.A., and Mr. and Mrs. L T. AVolle, of Ohio, U.S.A., are visitors to Auckland.
