AUSTRALIA'S NAVY.

; .' _—.—» . — ' MTJST BE PART OF WHOLE SERVICE.. ADMIRAL'S WARNING. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright Sydney, July 19. At the Chamber of Commerce banquet, Admiral Sir Richard Poore (Cora-mander-in-Chief on the Australian Station), replying to the toast of his health, referred to the Australian Navy. It was, he said, a difficult subject for him to speak about. Australia had decided, with the Imperial Government, en one principle, and New Zealand on another. As Comniander-in-Chief he had to do the best he could. All he: could 'say was that if they were right in establishing an Australian Navy, the fact should be clearly recognised that it must exist as a part- of. the whole service. No portion of the Navy must consider it its duty to exist only in the country where it has its base.. The Navy could only exist under one supreme bead; otherwise we would repeat the fable of the bundle of sticks. Together they could. be bent, not broken; separate it was possible to break every one.
