WHAT'S IN A NAME?
HAVBLOCK AND HAVELOCK NORTH. A suggestion of the Postal Department to prevent confusion between Havelock (Marlborough) and Havelock North (Hawke's Bay) by changing the name of one of those towns was responsible for a deputation which waited on the Hon. D. Buddo last evening. The deputation consisted of: Mr. Dillon, member for Hawke's Bay, Mr. A. L. D. Fraser, and Mr. Fitzroy, act-ing-chairman of the Town 'Board Committee of Havelock North. Mr. J. Duncan, member for Wairau, was present by invitation to express the views of Havelock. ■.
Mr. Buddo proposed that the two towns should bear the. names Havelock and Lucknow, and that lots should be drawn to decide which should be which. But the representatives of both places were totally opposed to changing "the names that had been borne for over 50 years.
The Minister therefore stated that he would inform the Postal Department that both towns preferred to keep their original designations.
