"THE HYPOCRITES." The Clarke-Bteynell Company, led by ' Mr. H. It. Roberts and Miss Beatrice Day, are still playing "The Hypocrites" to largo audiences at the Opera House. Tho fact that the theatre can teach lessons as to conduct has rarely been bettsr exemplified thau in this powerful play of Henry Aitken Jones, and the high quality of the . a.cting throughout the present cast admirably seconds the intentions of the author, Mr. Roberts, as the manly curate, who stands alone in his refusal to be a party to hypocrisy and deceit,' is quiet, strong, and convincing, while Miss Day fully meets the requirements of a complex and exacting part. "The Hypocrites" will be repeated to-night. ': THEATRE ROYAL". . There was again a large attendance at tho Theatre Royal last night, and great appreciation was shown of the bright and varied programme submitted by Fullers' Vaudeville Company. That pair of clever balancers and comedians, billed as Himm and Mee, deserved the excellent reception aucorded to them, their "turn" having a humorous freshness all its own, and being quite free from vulgarity. Tho feats of tho very juvenile acrobats, the Rogers Quartet, were immensely popular, and it is certainly remarkable that such perfection of training should have been attained in such early yoars. There aro many other good items on the programme which will bo repeated tonight. THE KING'S THEATRE. Tho last performance of the current week's programme attracted a. largo audience last evening. In the cliange of programme announced for to-night some special subjects will ; bo shown, which the management state are tho finest examples of kinematographic art jot screened in this theatre. These will includo "Michael Stragoff" (a courier of tli© Tsar), adapted from Jules Verne's famous story, and a magnificent portrayal in every respect; "Tho 'Way of the World" (a. lesson in Christian, oharity), on. tho lines. of Hall Caine's "Christian," splendidly enacted by tho American biograph's artists at tho Mission of San Gabriel, California; , "Tho Angel of Dawson's Claim," a story prettily marked out, in which a three-year-old child plays a prominent part.; and "Liout. Hose and the Gun Runners." A series of scenic studies have also been selected, including "Tho Inundation of Sweden," giving a good idea of the- discomfort and danger caused by those occurrences; "Peking," throwing quite a new light on the great Chinese city, up to tho present almost unknown to tho general public; "Volondar," and "hi the Vicinity of the Laos States." Tho programme is well supplied with' comedies, and such pictures as "It Pays to Advertise," "Tho Forbidden Novel," "Henry's New Hat," "Max Tries Ski-ing,", and "A Pennyworth of Potatoes," and should meet tho tastes of all. .'Now.-selections by tho King special orchestra will also be given.' ..»..-: BIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. There was again a large and appreciativo audience at His Majesty's Theatre last evening, and the various films wero greeted with hearty applause. A picture entitled "Courting the Merry ffidow" was provocative of much merriment, the manoeuvres of two weighty rival suitors, who were both eventually discarded, being most amusing. Tho leading features of the English Derby of rjll) wore watched with keen interest, and tho film of "Hall Came at Homo," showing the famous author and dramatist at various occupations, appealed to the audience. ''Victims of Fate" is a tense story of love and passion in the Canadian backwoods, and the various other kinematograph views wore all of an interesting and instructive description. Tho management promiso an exceptionally fine programme for this evening. -'; "THE KELLY GANG." Speaking of this successful living-pic-turo drama, which will be presented by tho Messrs. MacMahon at tho Opera House.on Monday evening next, tho Auckland "Herald" says:—"The Kelly Gang, during its career, performed i such feats of daring that it appealed I to tiio imagination of a largo section of tho Australian public, and the impression then gained has not been dimmed by time. On the contrary, it seems to have become magnified, as when tho MacMahon Brothers presented the gang and their remarkable exploits in livingpicture form at His Majesty's Theatre tho lane at tho roar wac crowded by a denso throng of people, and when tickets for tho full seating capacity of tho bouse had been issued many had to be turned away unable to gain a,dmission. In the film itself, measuring some- 3000 ft., tho spectators wore not disappointed. It was a wonderful creation, especially taken for tho 3.l'acMalion Brothers by Messrs. Johnson and Gibson, of Melbourne, and presented the story of one of the most sensational pages of Australian history in a truly realistic form." Tho box plans open to-morrow at tho Dresden. SKATING RINK. Votaries of tho winter pastimo of skating continuo to throng nightly to tho Olympia Rink, and there was again a largo crowd on tho floor spaco last evening. Quito a large number or learners attend the rink daily, and tho management provido special* facilities for beginners anxious to become proficient. ■• Last evening a very successful concert in aid of the sports fund was hold in the Boys' Institute before a large audience.
