A serious accident befell a single man named George Benjamin , Auckran, employed as a benchman at Messrs. Green ■and Whiteman's sawmill, in the Upper Hutt district, yesterday afternoon. From the meagre information available at a late hour last night, it appears that a' piece of timber became entangled'in tho revolving safr, and rebounding struck thu unfortunato man a severe blow, fracturing tho breast-bone, collar-bone, and several ribs. 'The-.injuries wero temporarily attended to, and the sufferer had to lie conveyed tho best, way possible for a distance" of about ten miles to tile Upper ■Hutt station, and from there he was convcyod to Wellington by'special train. lie was admitted to tho hospital at 11.30 p.m.
