FRENCH DEFEAT TRIBESMEN. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. Fez, July 17. An engagement was fought on the Muluya River between French troops and Moorish tribesmen. The latter were repulsed, .their losses totalling forty-threo dead.

SULTAN AND PRESSMAN. . Fez,' July 17. Tho Sultan, of Morocco, Mulai Hafid, offered M. Weisgenber, the Fez correspondent of the Paris journal "Le Temps," a parting gift of a horso and gold embroidered harness.
The correspondent solicited and obtained instead tho release of Leila Battoul (wife of Benaissa, Governor of Fez), who was tortured recently., °
The Sultan, for political reasons, declined to release Benaissa.
