Tho Wellington Butter and Cheese Workers' Union has filed its claims, anil over eighty co-operative factories and proprietary firms will bo cited. Tho union of workers has appointed ils three assessors, and,_ns soon as tho notices aro out, it will be" necessary for the employers to also appoint three assessors. Tho Conciliation Commissioner will probably sit at Palmerston. At nearly all the churcb.os in Palmerston last night a motion, framed at a meeting of the committee of Dr: Henry's united mission against the licensing of bookmakers, was put to tho congregations, and carried unanimously. Otto Benson, a young man until recently a clerk in the Feilding Telephone Exchange, was charged, at. the Magis; trate's Court to-day with stealing two postal notes valued at 165., the property of the Department, from a postal packet on March 21; with stealing J2l note from a postal' packet, tho property of George J'ossph. Arnold, on April 8; and with fraudulently stating that he had posted a postal packet to George Joseph Arnold, whereas he did hot do so. Accused pleaded guilty to the first two charges, and the third one was not proceeded with. Accused was remanded to the .Wellington. Supreme Court for sentence, bail being allowed in two sureties of ,£SO each, and. himself in £SQ. A deputation from tho Palmerston Trotting Club met the combined Ground and Finance Committees of the Manawatu. A. and P. Association this afternoon in regard to securing . the show grounds for trotting meetings. After discussing the matter, the' committee decided that, owing to a. portion of the ground being promised to (he Government for a dairy school,. it could not entertain the proposals of .the Trotting Club.
