I: ■ compensation: for improve- | . ' MENTS. }■■■ {By Teleerapn—Press Association.! '..''■ Dunedln, July 17. At a meotina of the Land Board yes- '. terday, a petition was. received from a ■number of mnliolclers, stock and sta- \ tioh agents, and others interested in , Crown lands beid under Jeaso for pas- :■ ioral purposes under Part 6 of the Land ; !ict }908.. .■ ,■ ; The petitioners complained that, with , the exception of rabbit-i>roof fencing, a >. losseti-had lui light to compensation for either, against the Crown ■ or the Land Board. Compensation pay- ; nble fdr improvements, other than.rabi bit-proof fencing, was the amount of ~ the valuation thereof based on the ■ value to tho incoming tenant,-but tho ■weak point was that this right, arose I only in the event of the whole ■or portion of a run being again let.for pas- ', toral' purposes. Frequently a run was ; cut up into 3mall grazing runs, and, i in such cases, depended : wholly on the will of tho board, subject , to the Governor's approval. Tho petii. tioners asked, therefore, that the law 1 be amended so as to entitle outgoing pastoral tenants to valuation for imI , provements in all cases. : • After consideration, the board de- ; cided that lessees of pastoral runs : should, hove-a guarantee as to valua- : tionfor improvements in all cases, and , suggested that the Act be amended ac- .' cordingly. It was also of opinion that improvements should be valued by ari bitration, and be paid for by the Crown, "• .and charged to the incoming tenant by ; way of increased rent.
