There has been some anxiety at Onehunga for two days past concerning the disappearance of Miss Gwen Ferguson from her parents' home. On Wednesday night Miss Ferguson , went to bed at about ten o'clock, but next morn- - ing she was not in the house. An alarum .clock .in her room had been set for 12.30, and a note written by her was found ( in tho kitcheu. This note contained the news that she would return home at 5.30 yesterday morning; unless something happened.' are entertained for her safety, and c2S. police have been searching. She has not yet returned homo, and, up ull a late hour to-night, nothing more " had been heard of her. , ■ CHARGE OF BREAKINC AND . ENTERINC. Christchurch, July 15. William • John Grose, the man a> rested in connection .with the. Linwood burglaries, appeared at the Magistrate's Court on a charge of having broken and entered the shop of T. W. Moller, ' and having stolen two pairs of boots and a pair of rubber heels, valued , "at £2 12s. 3d. \ Accused was remanded until Thursday, July 21. A meeting of Dr. Henry's United' Mission Committee to-night resolved to submit the following resolution to the various churches:—"That this congregation' sfrmi&dy urges the repeal of the • provision made in the law for licensing bookmakers, and the enactment of such restrictive measures as will effectually .check the spread of gambling."It was. also resolved: —"That, inasmuch as the public. exhibition of pictures portraying prize', fights and other subjects appeal to the lower instincts of the community, it is expedient that a measure should be passed by Parliament prohibiting the display of such pictures in any public place of entertainment.: We further. commend the action which, .the Prime Minister has promised to take for. tho suppression of such displays." . . ■• • DOWNPOUR AT KAIKOURA. ; Christchuroh, July 15. William Trevis, alias William Henry Trevis, who escaped from lawful custody at Wanganui on; March 20 last, was arrested by' Constable A. Skinner in a local hotel last night.
