CRUSOE'S ISLAND.
LINKED UP BY "WIRELESS." By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Rec. July 17, 5.5 p.m.) Santiago de Chile, July 16. The Chilian Government is erecting a Marconi station at Juun Fernandez Island. The Juan Fernando group consists of two islands and islet, and belongs to Chile. The longest island has an area of % square miles (about 61,01)0 acres), and is -115 miles out in Hie Pacific from Valparaiso. The western isle is 100 miles beyond this, again. The islands owe their name to a Portuguese navigator, who discovered, them in 1574, and introduced poats and European plants on them. The miiei' island was for four years (1704-9) the solitary residence of a Scotchman named Alexander Selkirk, an incident which is supposed to have formed the basis of . Defoe's well-known tale .of "Robinson Crusoe." .
