The Chinese Consul is to , be approached to-day by a deputation from tho Tobacconists' Association, Messrs. J. B. Speed (president), and H. i\ Allen (secretary). Tiiis deputation will lay before Mr. Hwang tho proposed tariff of th<? association, and submit all available information with a view to arriving at an amicable understanding in regard to tile control of the tobacco trade. The Tobacconists' Association is desirous of approaching the grocers with a similar view, but according to Mr. Speed there is an initial difficulty in that no such organisation as a Grocovs' Association exists.
