SCULLING.
FOGWELL AND WHELCH. (By TelecraDh—Press Assooia.tion.l Chrlstohurch July 16. G. Fogwell has asked George Whelcb. (the holder) to row him another race for the championship of New Zealand, and £100 or £200 a side, the race to be rowed at Akaroa next Easter. Whelch consents subject to a small condition with regard to Fogwell s expenses. ■ _ Fogwell, of Sydney, rowed Whflch at Akaroa, for the sculling championship of New Zealand, over the Akaroa - course, at Easter last year. .The race was almost farcical, Whelch winning as he pleased. It was reported that Fogwell had gone staler©! his work, and his showing on thsffioepasion did not by any means reprint his rowing strength. Since thaT match Whelch challenged Arnet for the championship of the world, and onco more Akaroa was the scene of action. On that occasion less than four months ago, Arnst showcd himself as superior to- Whelch as Whelch did to Fogwell. Mr. William Webb, of Wanaanui and sculling fame, is building a wager boat for Lawson, of Nelson, the tall, fair giant, who showed such promise in the Foxton handicaps last year. Well boated, Lawson will prove a tough nut for anyone to crack in a couple of seasons. ■ •
