•THE LAND BILL. THE ATTITUDE OF. THE * ■ -OPPOSITION.. Will the Land Bill bo brought-down this session? Apparently some members are taking no risks, for they aro evincing ; a keen disposition to make ■their position clear on tho subject; Thus it was that when the question' of the occupation of tho pastoral lands in.the Mackenzie Country .camo up,for :consideration yesterday, .there arose a: general discussion on various aspects of land settlement.. AVhen Mr. -.Massey came to speak he expressed surprise at the turn which the debate had taken, in viow.ofthe fact that a Land Bill was promised this session. ''Of, comse," contained Mr. Massoy, "we-don't: know what kind of Bill it will be—whether it'will bo freehold, leasehold, or piebald. (Laughtor.) I can assure the, Prime Minister, however, that it will never do to bring down the Bill which' was v introduced last year, for by the time it gets through, if it ever does get. that far, thore will ho very little of it left but) tho short title. Sir Joseph: You don't want a Landi Bill at all? Mr. Massey: Oh, yes, I do, and if it is a freehold Bill it will get my support in regard to every clause. Mr. Laurenson: When he gets your support he is dono. DAIRY INDUSTRY ACT. The Government intends to give Parliament-an opportunity of reinstating the.Dairy Industry, Act, which was repealed two years ago. This was an, Act providing for advances to dairy companies establishing factories and creameries. It had a repeal clause, which automatically repealed it two years ago. 810 KING COUNTRY DEPUTATION. ' As a result of the rccerii;''conference-' of local bodies of the, King Country, a largo deputation wiirw'ait. on. the Prime Minister and other Ministers on Monday afternoon to make representations on such-matters as rating on Native lands, teuuro of Native townships, roads and- bridges, and' tho starting of tho Stratford-Ongaruo railway from the Onganie' end. Among tho visitors to the House last night wore several members of the Amoricau Rugby team, which has just arrived on a tour of Now Zealand. The Primo Minister (Sir Joseph Ward)-en-tertained them at .the supper adjournment. ... Tho Otald County' Bill, which has been introduced by Mr. Luke, proposes to constitute a county comprising the Otaki and To Horo ridings of tho Horowlienua county and tho Whareroa riding of' the Hutt County.
