THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT'S RE. POUT FOR JUNE. ■ "The following is the Labour Department's report on the condition of trade and labour in 'Wellington during the month of Juno': — . Clothing trades have been very busy, and a great improvement on tho corresponding month ■of last year has. been shown. Employers generally express satisfaction,'and are hopeful of a still further increase in the volume of trade being done. Building trades: ■ Bricklaying fairly good, ami there are very few men out of work. Carpentry and joinery fairly good, although there are some men out of employment. Painting good at tho beginning of the month, but a slacken-ing-ofL has been experienced towards tho end. Plastering fairly busy. Plumbing very bright; much better than the same month last year. Tinsmithing quiet. Stonemasonry fairly good. Box-making and coopering are set tiown as very busy; cab'motnjaking slight improvement on last month: saw-milling, fair; boiler-making- still slack; fitting, very, slack; rangemaking, an improvement, has been experienced ; bootmaking, very -.busy; saddlery, fair; dressmaking.and millinery, very brisk; tailoring, satisfactory; and the retail trades, fairly good. ■ The report states that with regard' t;i unskilled labour applications" are ten to 15 daily, and work outside of •"Wellington has been offered: to all men physically capable. There has been a demand, for lirst-clas's bushfellers and for capable tumiel-mcn for Otira. One hundred and fifty men, with •21G dependents, havo been found employment on public and private works, 81! being sent to private employment and 08. to .pubuc-works.
