MONOPOLIES.
Sir,—The Premier, when speaking at. Winton, was very optimistic, and told his audience during cqriversatiou that he would introduce a Rill that would abolish all monopolies and,, place every, man in a free and open market. Now, this is really good, and we trust that Sir Joseph Ward will carry out his promise, but I hope.bo will not be afraid to include the brewery and Standard Oil monopolies in his Bill. It is all very well to wipe out all others and let these still have_ a free hand, and if he wants to retain the confidence of the public let him include them in tho batch. If'the Government were to put a duty of £2 per hogshead, and make the breweries bonded warehouses thero would be no trouble in _ paying ■ off the public debt of the Dominion in a very short time.—l am, etc., DEMOCRAT.
