LADY STOUT'S UTTERANCES.

Sir, —I notice ia the morning papers by the, cables from London that Lady Stout, wife of the-Chief Justice of New Zealand, makes the astonishing statement that the increased. birth-rate is due. to female suffrage. I think this is the most ridiculous statement that could havo been uttered, and'l enter my protest strongly against, such ah. absurd statement. In my opinion female franchise is a curse. The women of this country do not want to vote, and it is the greatest hardship to get them out to vote on election days. Political women, in my. opinion, are a horror. I maintain' the proper'place for women is the home. It takes a woman all her time to look after her household affairs. A certain section of women in this country who mix up with politics are a very peculiar set, and I guarantee that I ;can : name some whose houses are monuments of neglect; their children and husbands are also neglected.—l am,- etc., >"' COMMONSENSE. [Portions of this letter havo been omitted as being too personal.]
