The whaling season at Whangamumu, which is now drawing to a close, has not been a very successful 0110 our Auckland correspondent'. The industry at this station is carried on by Mossrs. Cook Bros., who, it is said, have only managed to capturo nine whales this season. Last season Ifi whales wero taken, which produced 80 tons of oil, 20 tons of manure, and 10 tons of bonedust. In the oarly part of last month an up-to-dato steam whaler named tho Hananui arrived from Middlesbrough, to the ordnr of a local syndicate, who dispatched her- to Whangamumu,.where she has been busily engaged in tho industry, both chasing and towing the whales. This week Messrs. Holt and Son, of J'ealdina shipped 70 mixed horses to tho Sydney market.
