"GO ON THE LAND!"
BOYS' INSTITUTE TO MAKE FaRjIKRS. At the meeting of the executive of the' Wellington Boys' Institute on Thursday evening, ways and means of inducing town boys, those employed in. unskilled labour in particular, to learn /arming were considered at some length. It was. mentioned, that illustrated .lectures dealing with certain aspects . of' 'farming life might be giren with; good eifect; and.it was also suggested that the various branches 'of the Farmers' Unions and Associations might be approached ■ with a view to establishing some method by which the institute could bo advised of any vacancies fop boys on-farms, so that a register might be kept of such vacancies, on the on<» band, and of those boys prepared to go oh the land on the other. One proposal embodied in the scheme is that all Homo steamers should be met, and assistance given to those lads who wished' to lake up farming work. The president and secretary were appointed a sub-committee to consider the matter further, and draft a report setting iorth'a specific scheme of operations.
