' James Valentino Meceh was convicted and fined £5; in default 21. days' imprisonment, for using obscene language in North Struct, and on a further charge '; of drunkenness was fined 55.. in default I 24 liuura' imprisonment. i • William Wallace, a prohibited person with sixty-two previous convictions, was convicted mid for insobriety, declared to be a habitual drunkard, and ordered to the Pakatoa Inebriates' Home for twelve months. Mr. J. J. M'Grath appeared for defendant. 'Annie Wright pleaded not guilty to using obscene language in North Street, but was convicted and lined £5, in default 21. days' imprisonment.' 'Mr. Jl. I' 1 . O'Lcary* appeared for accused. William Hill was charged with the theft, on June 30 and July 1, of two
milk cans valued at 13s. Gel. oncli, tho property of 0. Niwh; also with Stealing another milk-can, the property of Daniel Kavanagh.. Accused pleaded not guilty and was defended by Mr. J. .T. Dcvlne. After evidence had been partly heard the easo was adjourned until Monday. , Two first-offending inebriates were convicted and discharged, and another . on bail who did not appear was lined 10s. or 21 hours' imprisonment. for permitting oifensivo rubbish to remain on his premises William Rhodes was. lined 10s., with .7s. costs. For failing to register their dogs the following wei'o ordered Id pay Court costs of 7s.:—Thomas J. Gardiner, James Gregory, Frank Grint, James Howard, Alfred'.l'ritno, Richard Smith, Frank Snoad, and Mathew Summers. CIVIL CASES. (Before Mr. W. E, Haselden, S.M.) In the case of W. A.. Evcnsou v. Paul Mitchell,-a claim for £8, judgment was for defendant with costs £1 18s. Gd. Mr. Toogood appeared for plaintilf and Mr. Atkinson for defendant.' The New Zealand Fanners' Distributing Company, Limited, claimed lGs. from J. J. K, Powell, but were nonsuited. Mr. Anderson appeared for tho plaintiff company, and Mr. Ilerdman for defendant.
