A STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION. : ■ A general meeting called .for tho pur- • peso of forming a senior students' and ex-students' association in connection with the AVollingron Technical College, was held-at. the Masonic Hall last ' evening. There was an attendance of about two hundred. Air, w S. La 'Probe, M.A., presided. • The chairman remarked that the question of forming such a society was one _ of considerable importance to' its mem-bers.-as'well as ti) technical education.» It would also hind together the interests of tho various students in promoting friendly athletics, a literary society, : and. other side issues. In other places simiku organisations- existed, and the formation of'one. in Wellington would enable them to.have aii interchange of ideas. Speaking of the Wellington Tcclinicai School, he mentioned that it had as many pupils as all of the sceond'ary schools put together, including the Victoria College.- (Applause.) Mr. J l '. M. llcni'icr, .house master at the Technical College, explained the, objects of the aßSoeiatiui, which had two heads—a social and n policy side. The social side would mean the establishment of,,various sports clubs, a literary . and debatiiig society, etc. .Regarding policy side, ' the idea was to foster the technical education movement generally. There was no reason why Wellington, as a . central city in .the colony, should not have one of the | finest educational institutes in New Zealand, if not in Australasia. If at any timo thero was a change'in tho policy of tho Technical Education Board, heconsidered thrg)' the ideas of the association- would make themselves felt in .influencing the deliberations and policy of the board. - . Mr. S. o.' Binning road an encouraging report'front'the Progress Committee. The draft constitution was submitted, tho contents of which we're traversed by tho remarks of Messrs. La l.'robo and lteniier. . It was decided, on the motion of Mr. •Ellis, seconded by Mr. La Trobe, that it be an'instruction to the elected Executive Committee that a junior branch of the association be formed, this branch' to be ■ controlled by the Executive' Committee. The question of notices of motion to be presented at meetings of the association referred to in the constitution was relegated to the Executive Committee for further consideration, and it decided to 'adopt 'thu constitution as amended. The 'election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. W. S. La Trobe; president, Dr. Kenneth -Morpethi; vicepresidents, Mesdames J. A. Tripe, H. D. Crawford, and Messrs. A."D. Riley, A. Campbell, and Dr. AVallace Mackenzie ; joint secretaries, Miss Ltaisy M'Gratb, and S. J. Binning;.treasurer, Mr. H. Bolton; auditor, Mr. A. T. Clarke; Executive- Committee, Misses ' M'Rae, Hendry, and ; Harvey, and Messrs. Ellis, Gill, Cameron, and Diehl,
