FACTORY MANAGERS MEET.

EARLIER DATE FOR ENTRIES. , ADDITIONAL SHOW CLASSES. (By Telegraph—Special Reporter.) Hawera, July 14. ■ A meeting'of tho New 'Zealand Dairy I Factory Managers' Association was held in the Hawera Borough Council Cham- ' heirs' on Wednesday evening, Mr. J. O'Dea (Pihama) presiding. There were also present Messrs. J. Murray (Cheltenham), S. J. Jones (White Cliffs), P. Pound (ltowan), W. Tulo (Kapuni, "Jolls"), C. l)ew, (Whareroa), W. W. Forsyth (Riverdale), J. W. Reid (Oakura), A. J. Hopcroft (Normanby), and C. Farley (Kaponga). The chairman introduced tho question of inducing the directors of the Dominion Show to allow entries for the dairy classes to. closo much earlier than had been the case this year. Ho also thought that it would be a good thing if factories were allowed to store their butter in any freezing works which they • considered was most convenient. He moved: "That it bu a recommendation to the Dominion Dairy Show .that, the entries .for competition. in the. butter classes . close not later than April 30, and that companies be allowed to store their produce in any freezing chamber which they may consider to be Tnosi convenient." The mover added that he believed that if these proposals were adopted it would result in a larger number of entries being received—practically double the number. Mr. Farley seconded the motion, which was carried. . The following committco was appointed to deal with any matters that might require attention in connection with the Ifawera shows:—Messrs. C. Farley, D. Campbell, A. J. Hopcroft, W. W. Forsyth, C. Dew, J. Curie. J.' O'Dea, and J. Murray. The secretary asked if members thought that tho classes in the dairy sections at the Hawera Winter Show required amending. Mr. Hopcroft said that they _ appeared to .be very satisfactory, und that there was a creditable display. Mr. Murray suggested that it would bo a good idea if a class were included solely for factories outside of Taranaki. It was not perhaps desirable to confine the classes too much to local exhibitors, seeing that the show was called tho "Dominion Dairy Show." The chairman. remarked that he was one of the factory managers who. had met the directors of the' Dominion, Show in drawing up the dairy classes: Some had thought, that there should bo Taranaki classes only, while others" considered that it would be but proper to have a class for outside factories. _ At that time tho directors did not desire to lay out too much money for the first year, preferring first to find out whether the show would be a success. Now, however, there was no <doubt that it . was going to be successful. Before inserting any further classes, however, it was desirable to,, have an extra iclass, open .to factories outside Taranaki only, and he'.moved'a recommendation to. that effect to the winter show directors. Mr. Hopcroft seconded the motion, which was carried. A deputation from the Egmont A. and P. Association waited on ' the meeting with the object (as the president, Mr. T. Winis, stated) - of ascertaining if'- the Factory Managers' Association could offer the. association any suggestions for filling up' some of their "emptjv. : benches", in a" few of the''dairying classes: ' Mr. Winks further- said that-their cheese classes: had not been anything like the representative exhibition that they ought-to have been, considering" that the association was in the centre of a big dairyings district. The chairman said' that the Factory Mauagers' Association would no doubt be very pleased to' give tho A. and P. Association assistance if they would only act on tho suggestions given. Mr. Winks: We will be willing to adopt any suggestions from your committee. Mr. Murray remarked that he was in sympathy with the Hawera A. and P. Association as a factory manager, having been, a supporter of it for many years. He often wondered why the dairy classes at the Egmont'Show had not been better supported, especially as the fixture was in a rich dairying district. The chairman promised to give the A. and P. Association all the help possible.
