MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.

Although the weather was far from pleasant on Wednesday evening there was a crowded audience of seamen at the Missions to Seamen Institute, when tho Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) and Lady Ward provided a most enjoyable concert. Included in tho audience was a largo number of lads from the training ship .. Amokura. Mr. James • Moore (tho missioner) occupied tho chair. Tho programinii opened with u vocal duet by tho Misses Beauchamp and Ward; the Hon. A. T. Ngata, accompanied by a Maori party, eaug several Maori chanties and a war song; Mrs. Pitt gave • a beautiful rendering of "Homo, Sweet Home" in Maori, and for an encore sang a Maori love song; Dr. Hales sang "The Iriah Girl," anil :* whistling solo was contributed by Mr. Gardiner; Mrs. A. E. Donne, wiio received a double encore, song "Caller On," "Killarney," and "Eobin Adair"; Dr. Hay told humorous stories entitled "The Australian Emu" and "The Aged Prince of Tartary"; Miss Beaucliamp. contributed tho song "I Hear You Calling Mo"; tho song "Obofo11" was sung by the Hon. R. A. Loughnan; and Lady Ward and Miss Donne, who were encored, __ sang' "Life's Dream is O'er." Miss Ward and Mr. Prouse played tho accompaniments. Between the items several popular choruses were sung by the audience. and Mr. A. J. Hall (ex "Falcon"), accompanied by tile seamen present, a sailor's chantie. A conundrum competitoin was won by a sailor and a training ship lad. The missioner made n low brief- remarks on temperance, and twenty-one men ' took ■ the pledge. Hearty checrs were accorded Sir Joseph and Lady Ward and the performers, Lady Ward briefly responding, in tile absence of Sir .1 oseph, who was detained by Parliamentary duties. The concert was brought to a conclusion by the Maori party,, under Mr. >fgat:i'3 direction, giving three eheeii m their collapse after the adventure."
